A fatal accident took place on Monday, June 24, 2024, between 11 AM and noon, when a retired pastor was struck and killed by a speeding taxi in Kasoa.
UTV Ghana correspondent Jacob Kubi reported on the incident.
The victim, Pastor Koranteng, a retired pastor of the Apostolic Church in Gomoa Nyenyanu, was in his early 60s and had been routinely attending medical check-ups. While on his way to a private hospital near the Mother and Child Hospital in Kasoa for an appointment, he was hit by a taxi with the registration number GX 8200-20 as he crossed the road.
Witnesses at the scene noted that the taxi was traveling at a dangerously high speed, making it hard for them to understand how the driver lost control. The high velocity of the vehicle resulted in Pastor Koranteng being violently knocked down, causing his immediate death on the spot.
Shocked bystanders, who knew the retired pastor, expressed their grief and disbelief at the sudden loss of a man who had dedicated many years to serving the community.
Eyewitnesses reported that the driver confessed to having consumed two shots of alcohol prior to the incident. He explained that he had been working a night shift and was heading to his final stop for a meal. The police have since taken over the case and are carrying out a thorough investigation.
