The Rent Control Department has introduced a new digital platform aimed at addressing the shortcomings in Ghana’s traditional rental system.
The platform, available at rentcontrol.mwh.gov.gh, enables landlords and tenants to carry out essential tasks online, such as property registration, filing complaints, and resolving disputes without needing to visit Rent Control offices in person.
A key feature of the platform is its ability to facilitate the digital signing of tenancy agreements, streamlining the rental process by eliminating the need for physical paperwork. This feature enhances security, transparency, and efficiency in record-keeping.
Additionally, the platform will display available rental properties, allowing tenants to find accommodation without relying on agents.
During the launch event, Deputy Minister for Works and Housing, Dr. Prince Hamid Armah, emphasized the platform’s role in promoting efficiency, transparency, and inclusivity in public services.
“This is more than a technological advancement; it marks a transformative shift in how public services are delivered in Ghana,” Dr. Armah remarked.
He also stressed the government’s commitment to making these services accessible across all regions, positioning Ghana as a leader in public service innovation in Africa.
“The launch of rentcontrol.mwh.gov.gh represents a new chapter for Ghana’s rental sector, offering a more streamlined, transparent, and accessible service for all,” added Chief Rent Manager, Twum Ampofo.
The platform, developed through a partnership with SuperTech Limited, is now operational in 15 offices across 11 regions. Dr. Armah highlighted that the initiative is about more than just convenience, stating, “It’s about leveling the playing field for all Ghanaians, regardless of their location or socio-economic background, ensuring equal access to fair and efficient rental services.”
Chief Rent Manager Twum Ampofo called the digital platform a transformative step, moving away from the manual processes that had caused delays and frustrations for the public.
“This digital solution offers the efficiency and accessibility that Ghanaians have been waiting for,” Mr. Ampofo said, noting that the system will make services more accessible, particularly for those in remote areas.
Mr. Ampofo urged the public to adopt the new system, stating, “This platform is not just about technology, but about making rental services more equitable, efficient, and accessible for all Ghanaians. We are confident it will significantly improve the rental experience in the country.”B
The Chief Director of the Ministry of Works and Housing, Rev. Stephen Yaw Osei, emphasized the platform’s potential to bridge the gap between the department and the communities it serves. He highlighted how the platform will ensure compliance with rental regulations, provide quicker dispute resolution, and offer easier access to rental information.
“This project is about building a more responsive, accessible, and transparent system for all. We encourage everyone to explore and provide feedback as we continue to improve the platform,” Rev. Osei concluded.
