Parliament has officially approved the nomination of Dr. Edward Omane Boamah as the Minister-Designate for Defence following the adoption of the ninth report of the Appointments Committee.

While the committee unanimously recommended his approval, the debate in Parliament was not without controversy. Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin raised concerns over the conduct of the Clerk of the Committee, alleging that key submissions made by the nominee were omitted from the final report.

However, Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin condemned the attack on the clerk, emphasizing that grievances should be addressed through proper procedural channels rather than public accusations.

Dr. Omane Boamah’s confirmation follows the approval of Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah as Minister-Designate for Lands and Natural Resources, along with three regional ministers-designate, on January 29, 2025.

Their approval came after a rigorous vetting process, during which Parliament assessed their qualifications, experience, and suitability for their roles.

The newly appointed ministers are now set to assume their official duties, working closely with local authorities to implement government policies and drive socio-economic development in their respective sectors and regions.
