Firefighters, police, and other agencies have been dispatched to Fulanikrom to address an overturned fuel tanker that has been blocking traffic on the Kintampo-Kumasi/Accra highway since Friday morning, July 12, 2024.
The tanker from Burkina Faso, fully loaded with fuel, collided with a sedan, resulting in the tanker overturning and obstructing both sides of the road. The accident caused severe injuries, with the tanker driver losing an arm and the sedan driver losing both legs.
Passengers who spoke to Citi News reported that fire service personnel are actively spraying water on the leaking tanker to prevent a potential explosion, while police and other officers are working to tow the vehicle off the highway.
“They are spraying enough water on the tanker as it’s being towed since the fuel is leaking. I guess it has helped prevent an explosion,” one passenger stated.
Stranded passengers remain hopeful that the situation will be resolved soon and without further casualties.
