NPP Chairman Stephen Ntim Urges Unity Behind New Flagbearer Post-November 4 Election”I

Stephen Ntim, the National Chairman of Ghana’s ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called on all party members to unite and support the newly elected leader and flagbearer following the party’s presidential primaries on November 4, 2023. Ntim emphasized that this unity is crucial for the party’s goal of securing a third consecutive term in the December 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections, often referred to as “breaking the 8.”

Speaking at a joint press conference with the NPP’s National Executive Committee and Council of Elders, Ntim acknowledged that internal issues and divisions within the party pose a significant challenge to their electoral success. He specifically called upon the four flagbearer aspirants to work together as a team, even if they do not win the primaries, to ensure victory in the upcoming general elections.

Ntim stressed the importance of promoting unity and healing within the party to achieve their objectives. He urged members to prioritize the larger interests of the NPP over personal differences and egos. Additionally, Ntim mentioned that strict measures would be taken against indiscipline and actions that could undermine the party’s generational mandate and the goal of winning the 2024 elections.

Regarding the economy, which will be a critical campaign issue in 2024, Ntim expressed confidence in the steps taken by the Akufo-Addo government to revive it. He noted that the economy had shown signs of improvement, with decreasing inflation and a more stable currency.

The NPP is set to elect its flagbearer for the December 2024 general elections on November 4, 2023. This marks a significant change, as President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has led the NPP for the past 16 years. Four individuals are vying for the position: Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Minister of Food and Agriculture Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, sitting Member of Parliament Kennedy Agyapong, and former Member of Parliament Francis Addai Nimoh.
