A Kumasi High Court has handed down a combined sentence of 120 years imprisonment with hard labour and life imprisonment to Dominic Afriyie, also known as “GH”, for a brutal robbery and murder committed in Atasemanso, Kumasi, in 2021.

The 36-year-old was convicted on two counts of robbery and one count of murder, following the killing of 43-year-old pharmacist and building contractor, Michael Dela Agbo Klu, during a violent home invasion on November 20, 2021.

Afriyie, acting alone, stormed Mr. Klu’s residence at gunpoint, stealing two mobile phones, an ASUS Zenbook laptop, and GH¢1,500. He shot and killed Mr. Klu in the process.

On December 30, 2021, police received intelligence about a planned robbery in the same area. A swift surveillance operation led to Afriyie’s arrest along with three others in the early hours of December 31. They were apprehended in a Toyota Corolla with registration AS 5970-20, where two pistols and two single-barrelled shotguns were recovered.

Subsequent investigations confirmed Afriyie’s sole involvement in the 2021 robbery and murder. Despite pleading not guilty, a seven-member jury and the presiding judge, His Honour Abdul Razak, found him guilty after a full trial.

He was sentenced to 120 years for robbery and life imprisonment for murder, bringing justice to the victim’s family nearly four years after the tragic incident.
