New Patriotic Party (NPP) Postpones Flagbearer Aspirant Balloting Amidst Concerns

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has postponed its scheduled flagbearer aspirant balloting for today, September 6, 2023. The reasons behind this delay are unclear, but the elections committee met with the aspirants and disclosed that they have concerns to address. The committee, along with the aspirants and the Electoral Commission, will soon announce the procedures for the November 4 polls.

Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the spokesperson for the elections committee, stated that a new date for the balloting will be set after finalizing the election guidelines. Concerns raised by individuals about issues at polling centers are being addressed, and the committee will release a full report after consulting party stakeholders.

Alan Kyerematen, who ranked third in the Special Delegates’ Conference, had initially been a candidate for the November 4 primaries but withdrew, citing alleged intimidation of his supporters and election manipulation in favor of another candidate.

Afeyno-Markin urged party members to maintain decorum as they prepare to face the National Democratic Congress in the 2024 elections, emphasizing the need for unity and responsible conduct within the party.
