Nana Kwame Bediako (Cheddar) Faces GH¢50,000 GRA Fine Over Alleged Tax Evasion

In a recent development reported by The Ghanaian Times, Nana Kwame Bediako, popularly known as Cheddar, and a presidential candidate for Ghana’s upcoming general elections, has reportedly been fined 50,000 GHS by the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) for alleged tax evasion.

The GRA claims that Cheddar failed to file personal income tax returns from 2013 to 2016, resulting in the imposed fine. Despite settling an amount of GH¢209,171.00 between 2018 and 2020, he allegedly neglected to file returns for the post-2020 period, leading to further penalties.

For the years 2021-2022, the GRA estimates Cheddar’s tax assessment to be GH¢2,088,228 and GH¢5,096,536, respectively, coupled with penalties for his failure to file returns. The GRA source expressed concerns about the potential impact on Cheddar’s credibility, raising questions about his financial practices and commitment to national development.

As a presidential candidate, Cheddar’s involvement in a tax evasion scandal is seen as setting a concerning example for ethical standards expected from individuals in influential positions. The GRA’s significant fines underscore the gravity of the situation, emphasizing the importance of accountability and transparency, especially for those aspiring to lead the nation.

The source emphasized the crucial role of personal income tax in providing information about an individual’s investment activities and asset holdings, stating that it plays a vital role in identifying potential unreported income and questionable transactions. The persistent failure to pay penalties, instead of simply declaring income, raises broader questions about the sincerity and integrity of someone aspiring to lead the nation.
