NADMO Unveils Resettlement Plans for Victims of Akosombo Dam Spillage

Following the widespread devastation caused by the Akosombo Dam spillage, concerned citizens have been actively seeking solutions for the affected victims. Numerous questions have arisen regarding the path forward and the restoration of their settlements.

Providing an update on government relief efforts in the aftermath of the spillage, Eric Nana Agyemang Prempeh, the Director General of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), assured Ghanaians that comprehensive plans are underway to address the needs of the flood victims beyond the short term.

Call for permanent solution to havoc caused during spillage of Akosombo and Kpong Dams

Among the initiatives outlined, NADMO intends to decontaminate water bodies in the affected communities as the water recedes, assess the structural integrity of submerged buildings, clear debris, initiate fumigation processes, and engage stakeholders to facilitate the reopening of schools for the resumption of academic activities.

Regarding long-term solutions, Prempeh mentioned that an inter-ministerial committee established by the President has been assigned to address this aspect of the crisis.

Emphasizing NADMO’s commitment to its core constitutional mandate, Prempeh affirmed that the organization will continue administering relief efforts through district Disaster Management committees and collaboration with stakeholders in the affected communities.

Furthermore, he called upon all Ghanaians to unite and contribute to the fight against the devastating impact of climate change on the Volta region.

The government’s dedication to supporting the flood victims and the proactive measures being taken by NADMO reflect the collective effort to mitigate the effects of the Akosombo Dam spillage. As the situation evolves, ongoing support and collaboration from both authorities and citizens will be crucial in successfully resettling and rebuilding the affected communities.
