Manchester United fans have called for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to make a move for Norwich star Emiliano Buendia if they can’t secure the signing of Jadon Sancho in the upcoming transfer window.
United are prioritising the signing of Sancho from Borussia Dortmund in order to strengthen their attack. The England international is enjoying the finest season of his career in the Bundesliga and has entered the final two years of his contract.
Sancho is understood to have expressed a desire to return to Manchester but the transfer market has been thrown into uncertainty due to the global coronavirus crisis. The 20-year-old is expected to cost upwards of £100million but the pandemic is set to impact transfer fees around the globe.
The Canaries are currently rooted to the bottom of the table and supporters believe United could take advantage by bidding for the Argentine.
Should United fail to sign Sancho, fans believe Buendia could be the ideal alternative, given his excellent form for Norwich and their precarious position in the Premier League table. Some feel that even if Sancho joins, Buendia should be bought as well.
Manchester United great Rio Ferdinand believes that United should hand Sancho the number seven shirt if he completes his move to Old Trafford.
A number of players have struggled to wear the famous number since Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure but Ferdinand feels the youngster can handle the pressure.
“Yes, I would, he’s that type of character,” Ferdinand told the 606 podcast. “He’s got an arrogance about him, it’s what you want on a football pitch, they’d embrace that. So yes, I’d give it to him and put that pressure right on his shoulders!”
