Mahama Announces Plans to Establish Technical University in Techiman

Former President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to establish a Technical University in Techiman as part of efforts to expand access to technical and vocational education in the Bono East Region.

Speaking during his thank-you tour of the region, Mahama disclosed that the project is a collaboration between the government and key regional stakeholders, including the Bono East Regional Coordinating Council, the Lands Commission, and the Techiman Traditional Council. He confirmed that a site has already been selected at Forikrom for the proposed university.

“We are working closely with the relevant authorities to make this vision a reality. The goal is to equip our youth with practical skills for industrial and economic development,” Mahama stated.

In addition to the Techiman initiative, Mahama also revealed plans to establish a University of Health and Life Sciences in Kintampo to enhance access to quality education and healthcare services in the region.

He emphasized the critical role of technical education in Ghana’s economic transformation, noting that such institutions are vital for bridging the skills gap, promoting industrial growth, and creating employment opportunities.

The announcement was warmly received by traditional leaders and residents, who expressed optimism about the potential benefits for youth empowerment and regional development.

The planned Technical University at Forikrom is expected to offer programs in engineering, applied sciences, and industrial technology, equipping students with the hands-on skills needed in today’s competitive job market.
