A tragic incident unfolded at Sokoban Wood Village in Kumasi on Sunday, October 20, when a one-story building under construction collapsed, leading to the death of one person and the rescue of three others.
The collapse occurred in the early hours of the morning, trapping four construction workers beneath the rubble. The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) Kejetia Fire crew responded to an emergency call at 2:45 a.m., swiftly initiating a rescue operation upon arrival.
While three of the trapped individuals were rescued alive, one person was found dead at the scene. The body was handed over to the Ghana Police Service for further investigation and preservation.
Authorities are now investigating the cause of the collapse to assess whether safety protocols were breached. The GNFS urged construction companies to adhere to safety regulations to avoid such incidents in the future.
“The swift response from our team saved three lives, but this tragic event underscores the importance of strict compliance with safety protocols in all construction projects,” the GNFS emphasized in its statement.
