The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has revealed that former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta failed to provide a confirmed return date or credible medical documentation for a surgery he claimed would take place in March 2025.
According to the OSP, Mr. Ofori-Atta’s legal team submitted a doctor’s note in February indicating that he was undergoing tests and might undergo surgery abroad. However, the note was not addressed to any specific authority, offered no timeline, and lacked confirmation that the procedure took place.
Despite several requests, the OSP noted that Mr. Ofori-Atta never confirmed whether the surgery occurred or when he would return to Ghana. His continued absence and lack of cooperation, the OSP said, undermined the investigative process and left the office with no choice but to trigger an INTERPOL Red Notice for his provisional arrest and extradition.
Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng emphasized that “a suspect in a criminal investigation does not dictate the terms of engagement,” underscoring that Mr. Ofori-Atta’s conduct amounts to evasion and noncompliance with legal procedures.
