The Minister-Designate for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has advised individuals who do not meet the necessary qualifications to refrain from applying to join the country’s security services.

Speaking during his vetting before the Appointments Committee of Parliament on January 28, Dr. Boamah emphasized the importance of maintaining strict recruitment criteria, particularly regarding medical fitness. He assured the committee that, if approved, he would uphold the integrity of the recruitment process.

“If you have a heart condition, and the system is circumvented and you are enlisted and recruited, you are just jeopardizing your life. So, looking at it purely from the medical point of view, I will be the first person to advise if you genuinely don’t qualify to attempt it,” he stated.

Dr. Boamah also pledged not to engage in any form of favoritism or manipulation of the recruitment system, stressing that only qualified individuals should be considered for enlistment.

His comments come amid concerns about the fairness and transparency of security service recruitment processes in the country. Many citizens have raised issues regarding alleged political interference and favoritism in enlistment, leading to calls for a more transparent system.

Dr. Boamah’s assurance is expected to restore confidence in the recruitment process and ensure that only capable and medically fit individuals are admitted into the country’s security forces.
