Iconic La Tante DC-10 Restaurant Closes its Doors Permanently as Airplane is Being Towed Away

In a bittersweet turn of events, the beloved La Tante DC-10 Restaurant, once a Ghana Airways plane, has officially closed its doors for the last time. The unique dining establishment, which soared into public consciousness after its conversion from an airplane into a restaurant through a public-private partnership in 2013, has left a lasting mark on Accra’s culinary and cultural landscape.

The La Tante DC-10 Restaurant, located at the Kotoka International Airport, had been a hotspot for locals and tourists alike, offering an unforgettable dining experience within the vintage confines of an aircraft. Patrons could savor their meals while seated in authentic airplane seats, surrounded by aviation memorabilia, and enjoy panoramic views of the airport.

Unfortunately, the restaurant’s closure comes as a result of the challenging economic climate and shifting business dynamics brought about by the global pandemic. Despite efforts to weather the storm, the owners made the difficult decision to cease operations permanently.

The final moments of the restaurant were marked by a poignant farewell, as the DC-10 airplane was towed away from its familiar spot at the airport. Onlookers, many of whom had fond memories of dining in this unique establishment, gathered to bid their farewells to this iconic piece of Ghanaian history.
