Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed Accuses Communications Minister  of Plagiarism

In a recent development, Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, the Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, has leveled allegations of plagiarism against Communications Minister Ursula Owusu-Ekuful. The accusation stems from a briefing held in Parliament regarding the network challenges currently faced by the country. During her address, the Minister outlined measures being taken by the government to address the ongoing internet interruptions.

However, in a subsequent interaction with journalists, Murtala Mohammed expressed his concern over what he referred to as a “fake address” by the Minister. He asserted that numerous statements made by Ursula Owusu-Ekuful were verbatim copies of a statement issued by the Nigerian Communication Commission. According to Mohammed, this act of plagiarism is unacceptable, particularly within the confines of Parliament, which he emphasized is a house of records and expects original information from Ministers during discussions of significant matters.

Speaking on the matter, Murtala Mohammed emphasized the importance of Ministers providing unique and genuine information when appearing before Parliament, especially on critical issues such as internet interruptions. To substantiate his claim, he revealed that during the Minister’s speech, he personally visited the Nigerian Communication Commission’s website and discovered that many of the statements made by Ursula Owusu-Ekuful had been lifted word for word from the Commission’s statement. Mohammed strongly condemned this lack of originality and stressed the need for Ministers to offer authentic insights and data.

Interestingly, Murtala Mohammed also drew attention to a previous incident, alluding to the President’s first inaugural address in which he allegedly plagiarized statements from four American presidents. This reference suggests that Mohammed believes there may be a pattern of plagiarism within the government.
