Recent allegations have emerged against popular Ghanaian musician Kuami Eugene, concerning the salary he reportedly paid to his former househelp, Mary. The ex-househelp disclosed that when she initially commenced her employment with the musician, she received a monthly salary of GH₵400, which she described as “meagre.” However, she mentioned that over the years, Kuami Eugene gradually increased her salary by an additional GH₵100.
These claims sparked a wave of reactions on social media, with some defending Kuami Eugene’s actions by highlighting the exposure and benefits Mary received while working for the musician. Supporters of the musician argued that the provision of accommodation, free food, and water should also be considered in assessing the compensation given to the househelp. They suggested that expecting a significant salary increase beyond the provided essentials was unrealistic.
Conversely, critics voiced their dissatisfaction, condemning the alleged low payment to the househelp. They expressed disappointment that despite Kuami Eugene’s financial status, he allegedly paid a figure they deemed insufficient for someone employed under his wing. Some labeled the reported salary as shameful, particularly considering the disparity between the amount and the living expenses in Ghana.
