I Nearly Broke My Arm While Trying to Touch the Kaba – Akuapem Poloo

Ghanaian actress Rosemond Brown, popularly known as Akuapem Poloo, is currently on a Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca after converting to Islam in August 2022. Throughout her pilgrimage, she has been sharing her transformative experience on social media.

In a recent Instagram post, Akuapem Poloo recounted how she nearly injured her arm while attempting to touch the Kaaba. Photos posted on her Instagram page show her struggling in the crowd to reach the sacred site.

After successfully touching the Kaaba, Akuapem Poloo declared herself “Hajia Haniya” and expressed gratitude for the experience. She wrote, “I nearly broke my arms just to touch the Kaaba. Yes, I touched it, I kissed the Black Kaaba with determination, hard work, and the help of Allah. I made it, new Hajia in town (Hajia Haniya).”

The Kaaba, a sanctuary predating Islam, was constructed by Abraham (also known as Ibrahim) and his son Ismail, according to Islamic belief. It is believed that touching the Black Stone, part of the Kaaba, can absorb one’s sins.

In Islam, touching the Kaaba is a requirement to receive the titles of Hajia or Alhaji for women and men, respectively. Akuapem Poloo embraced Islam in August 2022 by declaring the shahada, affirming her belief in one God and the prophethood of Muhammad.

Reflecting on her pilgrimage, Akuapem Poloo shared, “Oh yes, Allah made this possible for me. Umrah 2024, mission accomplished.”
