The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has instructed Dr. Nuhu Zakaria, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Ambulance Service, to cease using the academic title “Professor.”
In a statement dated July 4 and signed by GTEC Director-General, Prof. Ahmed Abdulai Jinapor, the Commission clarified that there is no verifiable evidence to support Dr. Zakaria’s claim to the professorial title. GTEC emphasized that, although Dr. Zakaria may continue using his professional title as Medical Doctor (MD), the use of “Professor” is inappropriate.
The directive is part of GTEC’s ongoing efforts to curb the misuse of academic titles in the country. The Commission also communicated the directive to the Ministry of Health and requested the Ministry to enforce the decision.
GTEC warned that failure to comply with the directive could lead to legal action. The Commission’s stance is aligned with its mandate to uphold academic integrity and maintain high educational standards in Ghana.
