Group Urges Government to Relinquish Control of La General Hospital Land

A collective known as the Coalition of La Associations has called upon the government to surrender control of the La General Hospital land, allowing them to oversee its construction, citing the government’s failure to fulfill promises and meet deadlines.

In an interview on Eyewitness News on Citi FM, Jeffrey Tetteh, the Coalition’s spokesperson, accused the Minister of Health of displaying inconsistency in the construction of the hospital. Tetteh revealed that his group had made numerous attempts to communicate with the Health Minister regarding the hospital’s initiation but had been misled on multiple occasions.

Tetteh emphasized the need to inform the public about the Minister’s and the government’s lack of commitment to rebuilding the hospital, stating, “Last year, my group met with the Minister of Health after we had sent several letters to him, and we were informed that the hospital’s financier had gone bankrupt. I can confidently say that the Minister and the government misled the people of La, and I believe it’s time we clarify the situation to the public.”

“Our only request to the government is to relinquish its claim to the land and allow us to construct our own hospital, as the government has failed us, with the Greater Accra Regional Minister being the biggest disappointment,” Tetteh added.

The Coalition’s spokesperson also recalled the sod-cutting ceremony, highlighting it as evidence of the government’s consistent untruths. “During the sod-cutting event in August 2020, the location was adorned with images and posters of then-candidate Akufo-Addo and the parliamentary candidate, which raised suspicions. This made us realize that the project might not have been solely for the benefit of the people of La but rather for the political gain of certain individuals, and that is precisely what has occurred.”
