Ghana to Implement Visa-Free Access for All Africans in 2024, Announces President Akufo-Addo

In a significant development, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has revealed his government’s commitment to establishing a visa-free policy for all Africans visiting Ghana by the year 2024. Addressing participants at the opening of the 2024 Africa Prosperity Dialogue on Thursday, January 25, the President shared that the administration has already initiated the necessary processes to realize this policy within the current year.

President Akufo-Addo emphasized the importance of fostering collaboration and unity among African nations, urging participants to critically examine the dialogues to meet the demands of the private sector. He highlighted a recent example where special arrangements were made for the conference attendees, reducing visa acquisition fees by 50% and allowing for visa-on-arrival services.

The two-day Africa Prosperity Dialogues, held at the Peduase Lodge and organized by the APN in collaboration with the Africa Continental Free Trade Area Secretariat and the Government of Ghana, attracted participants from around the world. Under the theme “Developing Prosperity in Africa: Produce, Add, Value, and Trade,” the event serves as an annual platform uniting business executives, thought leaders, and political figures to collaboratively drive the goal of building Africa’s largest single market.

The Africa Prosperity Dialogues, officially adopted by the African Union in February 2023, stands as a crucial instrument for mobilizing private sector involvement in the continent’s pivotal AfCFTA project. President Akufo-Addo called for strengthened resolve to work hand in hand with governments, emphasizing the need to engage small traders, builders, farmers, and other stakeholders in recognizing the benefits of a unified African market.
