The Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation (GIADEC) is advocating for the establishment of an alumina refinery to process the substantial bauxite reserves found in the Nyinahin-Mpasaaso forest. GIADEC highlighted the inadequacy of the current refinery in Ghana to handle such substantial volumes.
During a meeting with President Akufo-Addo at the Jubilee House, GIADEC CEO Michael Ansah emphasized Ghana’s abundant bauxite deposits and the potential for increased profits through refining. He revealed plans to initiate processes for constructing an alumina refinery in Ghana in 2024.
“We are set to begin development next year, simultaneously working on the refinery solution,” Ansah stated. “GIADEC and Rocksure are actively exploring partnerships with external investors for a potential 2 million-ton alumina refinery in Ghana. We’re currently engaged in discussions with potential investors.”
The move aims to leverage Ghana’s bauxite resources more effectively, providing economic opportunities and maximizing the value obtained from bauxite exploration.
