GES Releases 2023 SHS Placement, 585,797 Students Placed

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has unveiled the roster of eligible students set to attend Senior High Schools (SHS) and Technical and Vocational Education and Training Schools (TVET) this year. The release came through the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS), encompassing candidates who completed the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in 2023.

According to the statement issued by GES on Tuesday, out of the 598,839 results received from the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), a total of 585,797 candidates met the requirements for placement. Notably, 477,772 students, accounting for 81.56%, were automatically allocated spots in their preferred institutions, marking a substantial increase compared to last year, with over 100,000 more students securing placements.

However, there remains a cohort of 108,025 qualified candidates, constituting 18.44% of the total, who were unable to be matched with any of their selected choices. Consequently, GES has encouraged these students to engage in self-placement, providing them with the opportunity to select from the available schools.

The announcement marks a significant stride in the educational landscape, emphasizing both an increase in the number of qualifying students and the continued commitment to facilitating accessible education opportunities for Ghanaian youth.
