EC Releases Provisional Voter Register to Political Parties

The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has officially released the provisional voter register to political parties ahead of the voter register exhibition set to begin on Tuesday, August 20, and end on August 27, 2024. This move follows significant pressure from political parties and stakeholders, who have been eagerly awaiting the provisional register for review.

During a press conference at the EC headquarters on Monday, Deputy Electoral Commissioner Dr. Bossman Asare clarified that the commission remains within its planned timeline for delivering the provisional register. He addressed concerns raised by some media outlets, stating that the commission is required by Regulation 22 of CI 31, as amended by CI 126, to provide the provisional register to political parties within three months of the registration period’s end.

Dr. Asare noted that the limited registration ended on May 29, 2024, with a mop-up registration concluding on August 3, 2023. Therefore, the EC has until the end of August 2024 to provide the provisional register to political parties. He confirmed that the external drives containing the provisional voter register are available for collection, with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) already having picked up its copy, alongside other parties.

The voter register exhibition exercise will take place from August 20 to August 27, 2024.
