Renowned disc jockey, Michael Asheley, professionally known as DJ Ashmen, has made a startling observation, asserting that Ghanaian songs fail to captivate audiences compared to music from other countries.
During an appearance on Daybreak Hitz with Andy Dosty, DJ Ashmen shed light on why Ghanaian music receives less airplay compared to international music on radio stations and in clubs.
While he refrained from categorizing Ghanaian songs as poor, DJ Ashmen highlighted that something crucial is missing in recent releases, rendering them less resonant with listeners.
He recounted an incident where he played the Nigerian hit song “Duduke” at a party, and the crowd enthusiastically danced along. However, when he switched to a Ghanaian song, the energy dissipated, and the attendees returned to their seats.
DJ Ashmen pinpointed production and content as areas where Ghanaian songs fall short. He specifically mentioned the absence of the infectious groove that characterized past hits like Wutah’s “Kotosa” in contemporary releases.
