Bernard Antwi Boasiako, widely known as Chairman Wontumi, made a notable appearance at the national headquarters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Accra on Tuesday, June 3, a day after his release from EOCO custody.
The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP was welcomed by an enthusiastic crowd of supporters who had gathered to show solidarity. Wontumi had been detained for a week by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in connection with allegations of fraud and money laundering.
He was released on Monday after fulfilling a GH₵50 million bail requirement with two justified sureties.
Wontumi, dressed in white and visibly more energetic than on the day of his release, smiled broadly and exchanged greetings with party members. To counter speculations about his health, he humorously raised one leg as a gesture to show he was fine, despite having limped the day before.
During a brief address, he expressed gratitude to party leaders and members for standing by him. He specifically acknowledged the support of the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, stating, “I had to come and show how grateful I am. May God bless you. Everything will be fine.”
