A deceased individual was discovered in the landing gear compartment of a United Airlines flight after it landed at Maui’s Kahului Airport on Christmas Eve. The incident has prompted an investigation by law enforcement authorities.
The flight, United Airlines Flight 202, departed from Chicago’s O’Hare Airport on Tuesday morning and arrived in Maui in the afternoon. According to a spokesperson for United Airlines, the body was found in the plane’s wheel well, a compartment accessible only from the exterior of the Boeing 787-10 aircraft.
Details about how or when the individual entered the landing gear area remain unclear. The airline has confirmed its cooperation with law enforcement as investigations continue.
The Maui Police Department, in a statement to Hawaii News Now, said they were investigating the discovery of the body on the incoming flight from the mainland. “At this time, no further details are available,” the department stated.
The deceased individual has not yet been identified, and the circumstances surrounding the incident are still under investigation.
