Nigerian cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky, has been released from the Kirikiri Correctional Centre after serving a six-month sentence for the abuse of naira notes. The release, which occurred on August 5, 2024, marks the end of a high-profile legal battle that began with his conviction on April 12, 2024.
Bobrisky was sentenced by Justice Abimbola Awogboro for the illegal practice of spraying naira notes at parties, an act deemed as mutilation of the national currency. The sentence was handed down without the option of a fine, reflecting the severity of the offense under Nigerian law.
Following his release, Bobrisky took to social media platform X to share his excitement and gratitude. In a video, he was seen alongside actress Eniola Ajao, expressing his eagerness to reconnect with his fans and resume his public activities. “I’ve missed you guys so much. I can’t wait to have you guys and give you guys what you have missed,” Bobrisky said in the video.
His release has been met with mixed reactions from the public, with some expressing relief at his return and others remaining critical of his actions. Nonetheless, Bobrisky’s return to the public eye is expected to rekindle interest in his activities and his ongoing influence in Nigerian entertainment and social media.
