A pregnant woman who survived the fatal accident at Amanase on the Accra-Kumasi Highway on Tuesday, April 22, has sadly lost her baby.
Medical staff at the Suhum Government Hospital confirmed that ultrasound scans conducted shortly after her arrival revealed the unborn baby had died due to the severity of the accident’s impact.
In addition to the pregnancy loss, the woman sustained a degloving injury to the skull, prompting immediate arrangements for surgery.
Meanwhile, one of the two individuals in critical condition is being prepared for transfer to the Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua for further treatment.
Dr. Ama Afriyie, Medical Officer in charge of the emergency ward at Suhum Government Hospital, updated the Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Awatey, on the condition of the victims still under medical care.
“We’re referring them to Koforidua Hospital,” Dr. Afriyie noted.
The Regional Minister also donated GHC 5,000 to support the initial treatment of victims and assured that the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) would cover the medical expenses for those without family support.
She urged health professionals to do everything possible to stabilize and care for the victims.
