Running stomach reason behind my absence – Awako after returning to Hearts of Oak training

Former Great Olympics captain Gladson Awako, has opened up on the reason why he hasn’t made his Hearts of Oak debut yet.

The 30-year-old signed for the reigning champions in August this year for a fee of GH₵100,000 in a two-year deal but left the team’s camp after three weeks.

Local reports claimed that the players’ act was due to spiritual problems he encountered signing his two-year deal with the Phobians.

However, the U-20 World Cup winner resumed training on Tuesday, November 23, 2021, joining his teammates in camp ahead of their CAF Confederations Cup match against Saoura FC.

In an interview on TV3’s GPL express, Awako disclosed what accounted for his absence.

The former Great Olympics playmaker disclosed that ill health was to account for his absence from the camp of the Ghanaian Premier League champions.

He said ‘running stomach’ caused his surprise three months absence from the club.

“When I joined, I wasn’t well, which my teammates were all aware, the team manager was aware as well, the coaches were all aware that I wasn’t well because I was having serious running stomach and other things.

“I asked for permission from the club and they granted me that permission to go and treat myself. I don’t believe there was any other thing like what people were saying was totally different.

“I have not been able to say anything since this speculation came out that ‘I said this, I said that. I never ever said I’m having these problems or I’m having this and that. I’ve never said anything. So I’m sorry I don’t know where these speculations were coming from,” he said.

Awako could make his debut for Hearts of Oak against JS Saoura on Sunday, November 28.

He Is The Future For Black Stars – Asamoah Praises Young Afena-Gyan

Ghanaian football legend, Asamoah Gyan, has eulogized Felix Afena-Gyan, suggesting the young footballer is a big prospect for the Black Stars.

The 18-year-old turned down a chance to feature for the Black Stars in the final round of games of the 2022 Fifa World Cup qualifier against Ethiopia and South Africa earlier this month.

He has, however, dominated the international and local media following his audacious two goals for AS Roma against Genoa last weekend in the Serie A.

However, Gyan, who has scored a record 51 goals for Ghana, said the youngster has the qualities to lead the Black Stars attack in the future and has advised that he is not rushed into the team.

“He is a very good player,” Gyan admitted in an interview with Asempa FM on the Ultimate Sports Show.

“I have watched all the games he has played for Roma and I think he is the future for the Black Stars but we must admit that he is young and we must not rush him.

“Let us allow him to join the team at the right time. He has been impressive but rushing him into the Black Stars will not be helpful.

“I think he not joining the Black Stars was not based on bad intention because I think he wants to develop himself and stay focused as well but I believe he will surely join the team at the right time with proper integration,” he added.

I Will Quit Hearts of Oak If … - Samuel Boadu Says As Pressure Mounts

Hearts of Oak head coach, Samuel Boadu, has said he is not scared to be shown the exit door after a difficult start of the 2021/22 football season.

The Phobians are yet to record a single win after four matches, drawing three and losing one.

The reigning champions suffered a 2-0 defeat at the Len Clay Stadium at Obuasi to AshantiGold SC on Sunday which made things difficult for the club.

“There is no pressure on me at all. This is the nature of our job, coaches are hired to be fired,” the former Medeama SC boss told reporters.

“So if the team is underperforming, I don’t think the management will be happy to see the team go down.

“If there is the need for someone to take over and do well then so be it,” Samuel Boadu added.

Two second-half goals from Yaw Annor and Abdul Salam ensured the Phobians tasted their first defeat of the campaign.

Hearts of Oak are currently sitting at the 15th position on the league standings with three points, nine points behind rivals and leaders Asante Kotoko.

The Rainbow club will take on Algerian side JS Saoura in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup play-offs next Sunday at the Accra Sports Stadium before hosting Medeama SC.
