Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Member of Parliament for Effutu, has contributed GHC100,000 to the Winneba Municipal Health Directorate to support efforts in tackling cholera in the area.
The donation was presented on his behalf by former Municipal Chief Executive, Alhaji Kassim Zubeiru, who reaffirmed the MP’s commitment to eradicating the disease from Effutu.
During the presentation on February 12, 2025, the former MCE was accompanied by NPP leadership, including local chiefs and party executives, who represented Afenyo-Markin in his absence.
Speaking at the event, Kassim Zubeiru stated, “We are here with some party executives, chiefs, and residents of Atekyedo to present a donation of GHC100,000 to support the cholera fight. Though the MP is currently away from the constituency, he remains dedicated to addressing this health crisis.”
He also urged coastal residents to prioritize sanitation and hygiene while avoiding open defecation, a key contributor to the spread of cholera.
“We must ensure cleanliness and put an end to open defecation. The MP has constructed several toilet facilities in these communities, and I encourage residents to make use of them. This will significantly help curb the spread of the disease. Afenyo-Markin is deeply concerned about the outbreak and is working closely with health authorities to address it,” Zubeiru added.
