The Accra Sports Stadium is facing another power disconnection by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) due to outstanding debts amounting to over GH¢400,000.
The stadium, currently undergoing renovation for the upcoming 2023 Africa Games and scheduled to host the Black Queens’ Olympic Games qualifier against Zambia, has had its power supply cut off for the second time in two years.
In March 2022, the stadium faced a similar fate when ECG disconnected its power over a debt of GH¢508,000. The National Task Force of ECG had then intervened, citing non-payment for electricity used over the previous 10 months.
Nene Shadrack Mase, the leader of the Task Force, had noted that the stadium management was supposed to pay 50% of the debt but had failed to do so.
The Accra Sports Stadium has been closed to Ghana Premier League matches since December.
