Dennis Miracles Aboagye, Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has strongly criticized the manner in which Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, was arrested by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

Speaking on Citi TV on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, Aboagye described the arrest as politically motivated and cautioned that such actions could have long-lasting consequences.

“Retaliation politics won’t help anyone,” he stated. “Let’s be clear, nobody is going to forget what happened last night. At some point, reasoning must prevail.”

He warned that public perception of political targeting can lead to unrest. “When citizens view an action as politically driven, they’ll respond. They’ll gather, protest, and won’t stop until they believe justice is done,” he said.

His comments come in the wake of intense backlash from NPP leaders and supporters, who say Wontumi’s arrest was unnecessary, excessive, and potentially part of a broader political witch-hunt by the current administration.
