Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has urged President John Dramani Mahama to immediately reverse the mass dismissals of public sector employees and reinstate those affected.

His call follows the government’s decision to revoke all appointments made after December 7, 2024. In a letter to the President on Tuesday, February 18, Afenyo-Markin argued that such a directive would demonstrate Mahama’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and protecting the constitutional rights of citizens.

The Minority Leader outlined three key actions for the President:

1. Reverse the Dismissals

Issue a directive withdrawing the Chief of Staff’s instruction that led to the terminations.

2. Reinstate Affected Employees

Restore all dismissed workers to their respective positions to correct the harm caused to them and their families.

3. Ensure Compliance & Accountability Task the Minister for Labour, Jobs, and Employment with monitoring reinstatements and submitting a compliance report to Parliament within 30 days.

Afenyo-Markin emphasized that these steps would not only address immediate injustices but also reinforce the Mahama administration’s commitment to good governance, inclusivity, and fairness.

He further cautioned that affected individuals might seek legal recourse under Articles 2(1) and 130 of the Constitution, but urged the President to intervene swiftly to prevent prolonged litigation.

“By taking immediate corrective action, you can undo what is clearly a constitutional breach and spare the victims and their families the trauma of prolonged legal battles,” he stated.
