Overwhelming NDC Majority in Parliament a Challenge – Speaker Bagbin

Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has described the overwhelming dominance of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Parliament as both an opportunity and a challenge for the legislative body.

Addressing journalists after his swearing-in ceremony on January 7, Bagbin acknowledged the complexities of managing a House where one party holds a significant majority. However, he reaffirmed his dedication to ensuring that Parliament operates beyond partisan politics and prioritizes the collective interests of Ghanaians.

“I never take anything for granted because the large numbers we have coming from the NDC is also a challenge, and I should be able to get them to focus more on national interests,” he stated.

Bagbin emphasized the importance of fostering collaboration among all Members of Parliament, regardless of their political affiliations, to safeguard Ghana’s democratic principles and promote development.

“The collective interests of all Ghanaians, whether you are NDC, NPP, PNC, or independent, that is what matters to me, and that will be a challenge,” he added.

As the NDC enjoys a commanding majority in the House following the December 2024 general elections, Bagbin’s leadership will be pivotal in maintaining balance and ensuring that the legislative agenda reflects the needs and aspirations of all citizens.
