Louisa Buabeng, an independent parliamentary candidate for the Effutu constituency, has been remanded into police custody by the Winneba High Court following allegations of conspiracy to commit a crime.
The decision was made on Thursday, November 28, 2024, by Justice Marriam Agyeman Gyasi Jawhary.
Buabeng was initially arrested on November 20, 2024, after a court hearing regarding an election-related case she had filed. She was later re-arrested on November 27, after police discovered multiple voter identification cards at the residence of one of her aides.
The aide has been charged with unlawful possession of documents, while Buabeng faces a charge of conspiracy to commit a crime.
Buabeng has been remanded into custody for four days and is set to reappear in court on Monday, December 1, 2024.
This case has drawn attention as the 2024 election season progresses, raising questions about election integrity and the responsibilities of candidates in ensuring lawful conduct within their campaigns.
