The Supreme Court of Ghana has announced December 18, 2024, as the date for its judgment on the constitutional challenge against the Anti-LGBTQI+ Bill. The challenge was filed by Richard Dela Sky in May 2024.
The case has drawn criticism from proponents of the bill, who accused the Chief Justice of delaying proceedings. However, the Judicial Service explained that the delay was due to incomplete submissions by the involved parties.
The Speaker of Parliament and the Attorney General, previously granted permission to file their defences, were present during the court’s recent hearing. At this session, the applicant was allowed to amend portions of his statement, giving the defendants an opportunity to respond.
The court subsequently adjourned the case, with the final ruling now set for December 18, 2024.
