If you want us to go to the World Cup, you need to support us – Otto Addo

Black Stars coach Otto Addo has urged Ghanaians to rally behind the national team as they focus on qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. This appeal comes after Ghana failed to secure a spot in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco following a 1-1 draw with Angola last Friday. The result left fans and players deeply disappointed.

Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, Addo acknowledged the frustration but stressed the need to look ahead. He stated that while the disappointment is understandable, the team must now focus on their World Cup qualifiers. Addo emphasized the importance of preparation, saying, “We need to do our best to prepare for the World Cup qualifiers, and it starts tomorrow.”

He called on Ghanaians to show their support, highlighting the crucial role of national unity in achieving their goals. “If you [Ghanaians] want us to go to the World Cup, you need to support us,” he said.

Ghana currently sits second in Group I of the World Cup qualifying table, tied on points with leaders Comoros. Only the group winners will advance to the knockout stage. The Black Stars are set to face Chad and Madagascar in their next qualifying matches, scheduled for March 2025. Addo aims to become the first coach to lead the Black Stars to consecutive World Cup appearances, reinforcing his determination to bring success to the national team.
