GAF Refutes Claims of Military Interference in Parliamentary Proceedings

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has denied reports suggesting that military personnel were deployed to interfere with parliamentary proceedings during the Fifth Meeting of the Fourth Session on Tuesday, October 22, 2024. In a statement issued by the Director-General of Public Relations, GAF described the reports as “false” and urged the public to dismiss them.

The reports emerged after military personnel were seen at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC), where Parliament held its session. However, GAF clarified that the personnel were present solely to conduct security checks, including canine and bomb sweeps, as requested by Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin. This routine procedure is carried out on Tuesdays to ensure the safety of the premises.

GAF emphasized that the military’s role was strictly limited to security and did not involve interference in parliamentary activities. The statement also cautioned media outlets to avoid spreading misinformation and urged them to report responsibly on public matters.
