A tragic accident on the Kumasi-Obuasi Highway claimed the lives of 13 passengers early on Monday, October 14, 2024.
A VIP bus traveling from Kumasi to Enchi veered off the road and crashed into a ditch near Kwapia, close to Obuasi.
Among the deceased were seven males, five females, and a child, with most victims dying instantly at the scene.
The bus driver, Osei Adu, who had been rushed to the hospital, also died shortly after arrival.
Eyewitnesses report that the bus, with registration number ER 2445-11, was overloaded after picking up passengers from a broken-down vehicle.
A confrontation among aggrieved passengers over the overcrowding may have distracted the driver, contributing to the crash.
Police have launched an investigation, and the injured are receiving medical care.
The bodies of the deceased have been sent to the morgue as authorities provide support to affected families.
