Ghana’s Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, has announced that the rollout of 5G services will begin on November 1, 2024. Speaking during an interview on Peace FM’s *Kokrokoo* show on October 2, she confirmed that all necessary infrastructure is in place for the launch.
The 5G service, the fifth generation of wireless technology, is expected to offer significantly faster internet speeds, improved download and upload times, stronger connectivity, and greater reliability compared to previous generations like 4G. It is estimated to be 10 times faster than 4G Plus.
The government has partnered with seven industry players, including Nokia, Telecel Ghana, K-NET, and others, to establish a shared infrastructure for 5G, aiming to provide affordable high-speed mobile broadband services across the country. This enhanced connectivity is expected to benefit key sectors like healthcare, education, and finance, offering Ghanaians access to digital services more efficiently.
