Pregnant Woman, Children Escape Death in Koforidua–Adukrom Road Crash

A pregnant woman and several children narrowly escaped death on Monday morning, June 2, following a road accident at Mile 44 along the Koforidua–Adukrom highway.

The incident involved a Toyota Hiace with registration number GT 5160-17, which was transporting 15 passengers from Ashaiman to Koforidua. The vehicle reportedly veered off the road and overturned into nearby bushes.

Though the exact cause of the crash remains unknown, eyewitnesses confirmed that the pregnant woman and the children onboard emerged unscathed. Several other passengers sustained minor injuries.

In a fortuitous turn of events, the Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Rita Akosua Awatey, who was en route to an official assignment in Odumase, arrived at the scene moments after the crash. She and her team swiftly joined in the rescue efforts and facilitated the transportation of the injured to a nearby health facility for medical care.

Personnel from the Motor Transport and Traffic Directorate (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service later arrived to secure the scene and initiate investigations into the circumstances leading to the accident.

Authorities are urging drivers to exercise caution on the Koforidua–Adukrom road, which has witnessed several accidents in recent months.
