Election 2024 Balloting: Bawumia Gets Number 1 Spot, Mahama Draws 8th Position

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has secured the number one spot on the ballot paper for Ghana’s upcoming presidential election, scheduled for December 7, 2024. This was determined during the Electoral Commission’s (EC) balloting event held on Friday, September 20, 2024, in Accra.

Evans Nimako, the NPP’s Director of Elections, picked the party’s number during the draw, positioning Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s flagbearer, prominently on the ballot.

Former President John Dramani Mahama, representing the National Democratic Congress (NDC), picked the 8th position. Meanwhile, Hassan Abdulai Ayariga of the All People’s Congress (APC) secured the 9th position.

Other parties on the ballot include Kofi Akpaloo of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), who drew the 5th spot, and Nana Akosua Frimpomaa of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), who was placed 7th.

Jean Mensa, Chairperson of the EC, also announced that several presidential aspirants had been disqualified from the race for failing to meet the necessary requirements. Among those disqualified were Bernard Mornah of the People’s National Convention (PNC) and Janet Nabla of the People’s National Party (PNP), who were unable to rectify errors on their nomination forms despite being given extra time.
