Ghana’s Black Stars endured a disappointing start to their 2025 AFCON qualifying campaign, losing 1-0 to Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi. The state of the pitch mirrored the poor performance, as Ghana struggled to create opportunities throughout the game.
Angola’s Milson scored the decisive goal in the 92nd minute, capitalizing on a poor clearance from Ghanaian defender Abdul Mumin to secure victory deep inside the penalty area.
This defeat ends Ghana’s impressive unbeaten streak at the Baba Yara Stadium, where they hadn’t lost since a 2000 defeat to South Africa.
Ghana’s attack lacked sharpness, with most attempts coming from long-range shots by players like Abdul Fatawu Issahaku. One of the best chances came from a combination between Mohammed Kudus and Antoine Semenyo, but Kudus’ shot was blocked for a corner.
In the other Group F match, Sudan defeated Niger 1-0. Ghana will face Niger in Morocco on Monday, September 9.
