Water Resources Commission Alerts Public on Imminent Spillage from Bagre Dam

The Water Resources Commission (WRC) has issued an urgent warning to communities along the White Volta River in Ghana, following notifications from SONABEL, the Power Utility of Burkina Faso, regarding the imminent spillage of water from the Bagre Dam.

According to a letter from the White Volta Basin Secretariat of the WRC, addressed on August 16, 2024, the water level in the Bagre Dam has been consistently rising since August 2, 2024, and currently stands at 232.82 meters, with the situation worsening. As a result, SONABEL has announced that the spillage will commence by Monday, August 19, 2024.

The spillage is expected to cause the White Volta River to overflow its banks, potentially flooding surrounding areas. Residents living along the banks of the river are strongly advised to take precautionary measures to avoid being adversely affected by the flooding.
