More than 20 students from Prampram D/A Basic ‘B’ and Methodist Freeman Basic School in the Greater Accra Region were rushed to the hospital after collapsing during school hours on Monday, April 14.
Witnesses reported seeing the pupils in visible distress before they collapsed. They were quickly taken to the Prampram Polyclinic, where medical staff are currently attending to them.
Initial investigations suggest that the affected students had consumed “asana,” a locally made corn-based drink sold by a vendor in the vicinity. The vendor, who also fell ill, has been admitted for treatment.
The Ningo-Prampram District Health Directorate is collaborating with school officials and parents to probe the cause of the incident and ensure the safety and well-being of other students.
