Prof. John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor Appointed as Vice Chancellor of UPSA

 

The Governing Council of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), has named Prof. John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor as the institution’s third Vice-Chancellor.

Prof. Mawutor’s appointment, effective from January 1, 2025, was announced through a circular signed by the UPSA Registrar, Lorraine Gyan, dated May 6, 2024. He will succeed Prof. Abednego F.O. Amartey, who completes his eight-year tenure on December 31, 2024.

Prof. Mawutor, a Professor of Finance and a Chartered Accountant, brings a wealth of experience to his new role. Currently serving as the Pro Vice-Chancellor of UPSA, he oversees the university’s academic affairs, ensuring the development and delivery of programs that address national needs.

In his capacity as Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mawutor has led initiatives to enhance the quality of education at UPSA, streamline academic processes, and introduce faculty and student-centered projects to enrich the teaching and learning experience.

With over 20 years of experience in academia and industry, Prof. Mawutor has held various positions at UPSA, including Programme Coordinator, Vice-Dean, and Dean of the School of Graduate Studies from 2016 to 2022. As Dean, he significantly expanded UPSA’s graduate programs, both in student enrollment and program offerings.

Prof. Mawutor began his career at UPSA as a lecturer in 2008 and has since risen through the ranks, becoming a Senior Lecturer in 2014 and an Associate Professor in 2021. His appointment as Vice-Chancellor is a testament to his dedication and contributions to UPSA’s academic growth and development.
