Methodist Church of Ghana to Meet President Akufo-Addo Over Delay in Signing Sexual Human Rights Bill

The Methodist Church of Ghana, led by Presiding Bishop Most Reverend Dr. Paul Kwabena Boafo, is set to meet with President Akufo-Addo to address the delay in signing the Sexual Human Rights and Family Values Bill into law. The bill, which was passed by Parliament about four weeks ago, is awaiting the President’s assent.

The delay in signing the bill into law has raised concerns, with the Methodist Church seeking to discuss the matter directly with the President. However, President Akufo-Addo released a statement earlier warning Parliament to refrain from sending the bill to him for assent.

According to the President, there has been a Supreme Court injunction preventing him from signing the bill into law. This follows allegations that Parliament sent the bill to his residence while he was away, leading to the President’s warning to desist from sending the bill for assent until the legal issues surrounding it are resolved.
