My Resignation Was Voluntary – Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu Tells Parliament

Suame lawmaker Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has formally informed Parliament’s Speaker Alban Bagbin regarding alterations in the leading body of the Majority Caucus in the legislative house.

During today’s parliamentary sitting, Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu remarked that his choice to resign from the position of Majority Leader was completely of his own accord.

In expressing appreciation to Speaker Alban Bagbin, he remarked, “I am grateful for the harmony and teamwork that characterized our relationship throughout the entirety of our interaction.”

Despite relinquishing the post of Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu will persist in his duties as the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs.

The designation of Alexander Afenyo-Markin, Representative for Efutu, as his replacement was declared by the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The resignation occurred on February 21 during a gathering between the Majority Caucus and President Akufo-Addo.

In an impromptu session convened in Accra on February 23, the NPP NEC unveiled the modifications in leadership, opting to maintain Mr. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu as Minister for Parliamentary Affairs.

The leading cadre of the Majority Caucus now comprises:

– Majority Leader: Alexander Afenyo-Markin, Representative for Efutu
– Deputy Majority Leader: Patricia Appiagyei, Representative for Asokwa
– Majority Chief Whip: Frank Annoh Dompreh, Representative for Nsawam/Adoagyiri
– First Deputy Majority Chief Whip: Habib Iddrisu, Representative for Tolon
– Second Deputy Majority Chief Whip: Alex Tetteh Djornobuah, Representative for Sefwi Akontombra
