Electoral Commission to Conduct District Level Elections in Postponed Areas Today

Today, the Electoral Commission (EC) is set to organize elections in district assemblies where polls were previously postponed. Approximately 40 districts in the Ashanti and Eastern Regions experienced delays due to ballot paper errors, distribution issues, and malfunctioning Biometric Verification Devices (BVD).

Stakeholders are urging the Commission to ensure smooth elections going forward. The Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) expressed disappointment over the challenges faced during the nationwide District Level Elections (DLEs) on December 19, holding the EC accountable for falling short of its duties and urging improved performance.

Furthermore, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) issued a strong warning to the EC, cautioning against repeating technical challenges encountered during the DLEs. The party emphasized the importance of avoiding similar issues in the 2024 polls to prevent any unfavorable incidents.
